Hoping you have already read yesterday's blog (if not, here is the link.)

I promised 'more to the story' today.  Here it is.

When the family came in, the children were two years older.  The daughter remembered exactly where on the painting she placed her timid brushstroke. TWO YEARS LATER.  That's the impact it had on her.

The son, the one with autism, was transformed from two years ago.  Much more, for lack of a better word, out of his shell.  Still relatively non communicative, yet much more energetic.  Very cool to see the difference.  I don't know if he remembered the event, but he sure did seem happy.

For two years, the unfinished canvas hung on this nail in the gallery.

Last night, I gifted the painting to the family, along with a copy of the blog post from two years ago.  Because it was the ONLY right thing to do.  They are THE family with whom it must reside, as a reminder for years to come.

Because that's what art can do.  The story will be told, and re-told, to countless others, I am quite certain.  And as the children grow and mature, they will remember it, and perhaps share the story with their friends, too.

A few simple brushstrokes of paint, on a random summer evening.

THIS is why I do what I do.

I know that my paintings will never hang in a museum.  And they aren't likely to enable me to retire early in a million dollar home (though one never knows!)  But if I can share some joy with an individual or two along the way, well, then, it is well worth the time spent.

I've been questioning whether or not I should maintain my gallery/studio space, or close up and just paint from home.  Praying, and seeking direction.

I believe God gave me my answer last night.

Please do stop by sometime soon.

ps - the daughter drew this heart "tattoo" on my arm!  Likely the closest I will ever come to a real tat - though, well, who knows!
